Helen SheatherRAMHP Coordinator, Helen Sheather, works across the Murrumbidgee Local Health District. Helen is based in Albury and covers the communities bound by the NSW/ Victorian Border, Tooleybuc, Urana, Henty and Gundagai.

What do you find rewarding about working with RAMHP?

“I get a lot of satisfaction from being able to get out and work in smaller communities that can at times be overlooked.

Most of my contacts are from face-to-face conversations in communities – I think people are more inclined to think about things or people they’re concerned about when I am standing there in front of them.”

What would you consider a highlight from the past year?

“We held natural disaster conferences and workshops following several natural disasters in Holbrook, Lockhart and Urana”

Working together to deal with natural disaster – conference and workshops

Helen worked with a committee of 4 people, to plan and implement the conference and workshops, to support local service providers. The conference aimed to:

  • bring service providers together
  • encourage collaboration and communication
  • educate service providers on the NSW State Emergency plan
  • inform service providers of ways to support community recovery from disaster and build preparedness for future events

What would you say is the most important part of your work?

“We are able to link into local issues and partner with a range of programs and organisations… RAMHP enables me to make a real difference in communities.”
