RAMHP Coordinator Darcy Budden, works throughout the Mid-North Coast Local Health District, from Port Macquarie to Coffs Harbour.

Darcy is committed to linking individuals and communities across the NSW Mid-North Coast to the help they need. Over the past year Darcy has coordinated and attended many education sessions and events aimed at increasing people’s awareness of mental health, as well as how and where to get help and support.

What would you say is the most important part of your work?

“My physical presence in the community provides a link between the mental health system and community members, which helps to overcome barriers when they arise.”

What would you consider a highlight from 2014?

“I’d consider the One Stop Pop-up Health Shop at Macksville a great success”

One Stop Pop-up Health Shop

Darcy coordinated this fantastic event, held for students and community members at Macksville TAFE. The One Stop Pop-up Health Shop:

  • educated youth and the wider community on the variety of services available in their local area, and introduced them to service providers
  • encouraged service providers to become more engaged with their communities
  • gathered feedback from community members and service providers about gaps in local service delivery
  • engaged service providers to follow-up with attendees by becoming guest speakers and attending future community events

What do you find most enjoyable about working with RAMHP?

“Face-to-face contact is a really important part of the work that I do, as community members can find the mental health services intimidating, or quite often, they are simply not sure where to start.

I get great enjoyment out of working in the diverse communities in my area.”
