Valuable Workplace Support Skills (WSS) training resonates with HACC staff

HACC Grenfell WSS March2015

Staff from Lachlan Home Care (Grenfell) participate in WSS training.

Around 80 staff from Lachlan Home Care which is funded by the Department of Ageing, Disability And Home Care (ADAC); have now attended one of RAMHPs Workplace Support Skills (WSS) training sessions in the last month.

RAMHP Coordinator Di Gill has facilitated the training sessions in Forbes, Parkes, Cowra, and Grenfell.

According to Acting Branch Manager, Home And Community Care (HACC), Sandra Massourit, the training has been ‘extremely beneficial’.

“Not only has our staff learned how to recognise signs that their clients may be struggling with mental health issues; they have also recognised that within their own personal circles, they can apply these same skills.

“In fact many have learnt the importance of how they can apply these skills and knowledge both within the workplace and within their communities, and some have stayed back to have a one-on-one discussion with the wonderful Di Gill”, Sandra says.

“Everyone knows someone who is affected by mental health and learning these invaluable skills of how to recognise a person who may be struggling with their mental health and how to both seek and provide appropriate help is just so important" she says.

The training sessions have been so successful that Sandra has made a recommendation to HACC that Di should have the opportunity to present at the next HACC forum to be held in Orange about what RAMHP does with the intention of rolling out more WSS training sessions for HACC staff across the Central West.
