Griffith Dramatic Minds Festival

The Murrumbidgee RAMHP workers, Merilyn Limbrick and Helen Sheather, have been hard at work organising the 2014 Dramatic Minds Festival to be held in Griffith on 26 June.

Held annually, the Dramatic Minds Festival is a mental health literacy program for students which promotes mental health knowledge and reduces the stigma of mental illness. Students are invited to research, write and perform an original ten minute play about a mental health issue that is impacting their school. A mental health consultant reviews the play to ensure that the mental health content of the play is accurate and that important messages regarding hope, recovery and promoting help seeking behaviour are projected.

The students present their play at a matinee performance to an audience comprising of their family, friends, peers and community members where a judging panel provides feedback to performers and to determine the winner of the festival.

Three other Dramatic Minds Festivals are planned for Murrumbidgee Local Health District in 2014:

  • Albury Dramatic Minds Festival, held in Albury and planned for Thursday 4 September 2014.

  • Murrumbidgee Dramatic Minds Festival, held in Wagga Wagga and planned for Wednesday 10 September 2014.

  • Golden Plains Dramatic Minds Festival, held in Temora, date TBA.
