RAMHP & Conversations Matter
The RAMHP team welcomed Conversation’s Matter Project Officer, Alexandra Culloden, to the CRRMH on June 2.
At the request of the previous Minister for Mental Health, Hon. Kevin Humphries, the RAMHP team will begin using and distributing Conversations Matter resources in their communities.
Conversations Matter is a new suite of resources developed to support safe and effective community discussions about suicide. The resources are the first of their kind internationally and have been developed by the Hunter Institute of Mental Health with the support of academics, service providers, people with lived experience, and community members in New South Wales and across Australia.
Alexandra walked the team through each of the resources and outlined how everyone has a role to play in understanding, preventing and responding to suicidal behaviour. While communities want to be involved and talk about suicide, the issue can be challenging.
The suite comprises of five different resources, each giving the user guidelines on how to approach a conversation about suicide:
- Groups discussions about suicide prevention
- When someone is thinking about suicide
- When communities are affected by suicide
- Those bereaved by suicide
- Telling a child about suicide
To find out more, or to download the resources, head to the Conversations Matter website.
